People need nature, in fact we need it a lot more than it needs us. We rely on a healthy environment to provide us with wealth, jobs and livelihoods. Therefore we will work with fishing communities in critical coastal habitats to improve livelihoods by better protecting the ocean and its diversity.
Livelihoods
Using existing best-practices, we will develop partnerships with local fisher associations, encouraging sustainable fishing techniques and promote value-chain additions and access to markets.
We will promote additional ocean-friendly revenue sources such as recycling abandoned fishing nets and developing community-based tourism.
Furthermore we will promote research and monitoring of key species. We will help enforce existing wildlife laws to stop illegal wildlife exploitation and trade which will benefit the local fishers who rely on healthy fish stocks for longterm benefits.
